What are Hex Signs?

Hex signs are a Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, barn paintings, usually in the form of “stars and other figures in circles.” The name is derived from the German word “hexe,” meaning witch. Some superstitions associate certain hex signs with strong magical properties intended to guide, empower and protect the owner from danger, evil, harm and sickness.

The Story

Rose Paulson and her friends steal a hex sign from an Amish barn in Elkhart County, IN. After the sign is accidentally broken it releases a curse put on the town by a witch burnt at the stake in the early 1700s.

When townspeople begin dying violent and mysterious deaths, including the Grandmother who raised her, Rose turns to a teenage Amish boy named Isaac for help.

As the witch and her curse grows stronger, so too does the attraction between the two teens. Together they race against time to stop the deadly spell. In the end, it is a love greater than any evil that breaks the curse and leaves everyone’s lives changed forever.
